THE SCHOOL HISTORY

In 1885, BD/Springvalley Tamil Maha Vidyalaya was commenced from grade one to three with the name of Bd/ Springvalley Government Tamil Mixed School at 01^st Division, Spring Valley.  In 19^th Century, it was proudly occupied its fame as the first Government School among the plantation sector schools in Uva Province. Then after, this school was established with two teachers and functioned as one session.   After a few years, this school was promoted up to grade five then, the pupils began to join this school from various places specially from Canavaralla, Namunukula, Springvalley and Kottagoda.  Later in 1965, this school was promoted up to grade 10.  However, the pupils those who studied in this school, they had to go for setting their G.C.E.O/L Exam to Passara or Badulla schools with an inconvenient circumstances.

                 Furthermore, in 1973, this school was upgraded up to grade10 by Mr.S. Pillai who was the principal at this school. At the first time, there were 08 students sat for the G.C.E. O/L examination. In this examination, six students were passed out of eight who were qualified for G.C.E.(A/L)  at that time. In later, the teachers’ no on roll was increased from three up to fourteen by the effort of principal to this school. In 1980, when the permission was granted to commence G.C.E.(A/L), although the permission was granted to begin H.N.C.E classes. So at the same time, Agriculture and Arts stream were started with 07 students.

1. In 1983, this school was completely destroyed by fire during the  communal riots.
2. This school was not functioned till 1986.
3. The two line rooms were converted as school by Hon. Minister Soumiyamoorty Thondaman on 16^th of May 1986.
4. In 1997 two acres of land was allocated by Hon.Minister Velautham of Uva Provincial Council.
5. The two storey building was (90*25) declare- opened by the Hon. Minister Soumiyamoorthy Thondaman on 23 ^rd of June 1999.
6. One more building was erected (60*60).
7. During this period ,this school was splendid in Education, Arts and Literature.

• There were six toilets constructed in the primary section and intermediate sections under the sustainable development project of “The Nearer School & the Best School” in 2017.
• This school was separated as primary section and intermediate section in 2017 due to the distance between the primary section and the intermediate section was more than 3 km problems which was arisen in carrying out the management concepts, though  the primary section was renamed as Bd/Spring Valley Primary Tamil  Vidyalaya. and  Mr. I.F.R. S. Devadas was appointed  as the principal in it.
• Since 2017, this school  was  began to function with grade 06-13 and it was  named as Bd/ Spring Valley Secondary College.
• Achieved goals after 2016, our school produced 70% the  best results in  G.C.E. O/L  Examination in 2017.
• In 2017,the monument was given to the students who have got Distinction (A) pass and very good pass (B) in 2^nd Language Sinhala by the Ministry of National Integration,  Reconciliation and Official Languages.
• In 2018, the medals were rewarded to the pioneer of environmental. And also the World Environmental Day celebrations  were held in our school.
• In 2018, Hali-ela Divisional Level Tamil day competitions were held at this school.
• The A/L  commerce stream was commenced in 2018  

• The new ties and badges were distributed to the pupils according to  the unique ideas  on basic school.
• Scouts squad was started for boys and girls
• The Co-curricular Activities were held entirely according to the Government Circulars.
• In 2018, our school was selected for under the Productivity project. Since that the productivity project activities were held gradually.
• S.Dharshika, the student has got the First University Entrance in 2019 G.C.E.(A/L) Examination.  At present, she has selected for Jaffna University and has being involved in the learning process.  
• The efficient school activities are being held continuously, though in our school was obtained the felicitation  in the productivity project in 2021.

 When we have  functioned like this, which is  a great challenge to us from this  lack of space while increasing the number of students day by day, because of this, the office  room was offered  to hold G.C.E.A/L class and the office is functioning at the principal’s  quarters, not only this, but also the teacher’s quarters was divided for  using as a library ,music room and home science. And also the two classrooms are using as a computer unit  and a science lab. Even though in this year, the divided classroom for science lab which was reconstructed and appeared as a science Lab and  Home Science Unit  etc.
